On Friday, October 21, 2016 many took The Incredible Journey with The Living Bank, as we celebrated the lives of those who have given and those who have received the life-saving gift of organ donation. Our honoree for this special evening was Kayla Lehmann, kidney transplant recipient and executive director of Nora’s Home for transplant patients and their families. Kayla works tirelessly on the endeavors she undertakes in life and does so with grace, humility and a generous spirit. The evening honored her passion for life and her service to the transplant community.
Sharing their awe-inspiring journey through transplant, Charles Rosson described how his parents were touched by transplant twice. Father Larry received a living kidney transplant from an altruistic donor on October 22, 2015 and eight days later wife Beverly donated one of her kidneys to an unknown recipient 1,700 miles away in thanksgiving for Larry’s second chance at life. Carson Kainer, living kidney transplant recipient, chronicled his experience
of receiving the gift of life from his father Ron, going on to become the first professional baseball player to play after an organ transplant and later inspiring countless young athletes with kidney disease to chase their dreams and never give up. Community leader and philanthropist, Shahzad Bashir gave an emotionally stirring testimonial about faith, community and the love of his family that carried him through his life-saving liver transplant.
Our 2016 Celebrate Life chairs were Ileana Treviño, Mari Treviño, and Margot Treviño Rosson. Their lives were forever altered when husband and father, Michael Treviño, received a liver transplant in November 2014. The Treviño family’s journey drives their passion to serve those touched by transplant and uplift the transplant community as a whole.
