Suzanne McGuire, BSN, RN
Living Donor Exchange Transplant Nurse Coordinator at the UCLA Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Programs
Suzanne McGuire graduated with her BSN from USC and was hired into the Transplant ICU New Grad program at UCLA, where she worked 1:1 bedside care of Liver, Kidney-Panc and Small Bowel Transplant patients prior to transitioning into her role as a Kidney Transplant Coordinator in 2001. She managed the kidney/KP/panc waitlist for several years prior to taking on the newly-created role of Living Donor Coordinator in 2004. Suzanne is the supervisor of the growing living donor team, which now includes five coordinators, a Social Worker/ILDA, and three assistants. Her primary interests and ongoing challenges include growth of the UCLA KPD program and increasing options for the highly sensitized, who are most difficult to match. Transplant is a big job for anyone to take on, and we are all reminded every day of the hardships our patients and their families face, and the privilege we have in helping them through their journey to better health. Suzanne’s family includes her always-supportive husband, their three grown children, and her five-year-old grandson, whose antics remind her that life is full of joy and wonder and excitement, if you just have your Star Wars light sabre handy.
