Mark Biscone, PhD, FACHE
Director of Research
CHI Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center
Since he was young, Mark Biscone has felt the call to help others and support causes where he can be of greatest service. True to form, Mark heard of a family friend in need of a kidney transplant and he chose to be tested. He was a match and a little over a year ago, on April 14, 2017, Mark donated his kidney to save his friend’s life! Additionally, Mark serves as Board Chairman on The Living Bank’s Board of Directors. He has been a board member since 2011 and is more committed than ever to their mission of advancing living organ donation to confront the shortage of organs needed for life-saving transplants.
Mark earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology and his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. Currently Mark serves as the Director of Research at CHI Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston, TX. He is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and process improvement expert. He has previously served in such roles as a deputy associate chief of staff, health systems specialist, and administrative officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs, where he helped create a regional office for systems redesign and engineering. Prior to joining the BSLMC, Mark served as the Regional Executive for the Texas Hospital Association updating and advising approximately 200 hospitals in the greater Houston/Southeast Texas region.
Mark’s personal and professional life naturally led him to explore opportunities for improvement in the patient experience and patient safety of living organ donors.
