OUR PROGRAMS
To help confront the critical shortage of organs available for life-saving transplants, The Living Bank offers programs that reflect our commitment to give the gift of life to those waiting for a second chance. They include:
Independent Living Donor Advocacy
Our licensed clinical transplant social workers serve as
Independent Living Donor Advocates (ILDAs) in the Texas Medical Center’s live donor transplant programs at CHI St. Luke’s Health, Houston Methodist, Memorial Hermann, Texas Children’s Hospital and to distant site locations via telehealth.
Our ILDAs serve to protect and promote the best interests of living organ donors, ensuring their decision to donate is informed and free from coercion.
Community Awareness
The Power of Life: Living Organ Donation Awareness program provides education on living organ donation and empowers communities to make informed health decisions.
Our community outreach focuses on people with severe diabetes and kidney disease; those who are on the waiting list; and those who are on dialysis. They are designed to highlight the benefits of transplants, and to enhance awareness of how to secure a living organ donor to increase the number of organs available for transplant.
Additionally, we support our local and national communities through multiple communication channels including online, print, and social media and offer presentations in community and corporate venues throughout the region. We also provide pre- and post-donation, psychosocial and practical issues education to medical and health personnel at transplant hospitals in the Texas Medical Center.
Independent Living Donor Advocate Network™ (ILDAN™) Webinars
The ILDAN™ is an online community of social workers, nurses, professional counselors, clergy and other health professionals who serve in live donor transplant programs throughout the nation. We offer a live webinar each month and make the recording available for OnDemand viewing. Attendees may earn one credit of continuing education for each ILDAN™ course completed.
